Moon Pie - aka Denver
From Moon Pie's adopter: He is such an amazing little guy - funny, smart, very kind, sweet...I can go on and on. All my friends call him the "Disney Dog" because they think he should be in a Disney movie. Please know that he is so loved and cared for and that he is happy, healthy and strong, and very well behaved. Thank you so much for giving me the best gift I have ever received.

Hudson - aka Henry
From Hudson’s adopter:
I wanted to send some pictures of "Hudson" (aka Henry) which show he is enjoying life in New Hampshire very much, ever since I adopted him from you at the Pumpkin Festival. He is a very affectionate, funny, and bold cat. He gets along great with his house companion, Ritter, a 7 month old GSD. He has proven to be an excellent mouser, with cat-like reflexes (Oh I guess that makes sense!)

Felix
I wanted to send you an update on one of your cats "Felix". He was adopted last December at the age of 6-9 months and is doing awesome! He's a solid 14 pounds now and has recently refound his kitten side with his newly adopted stray kitten friend. He loves playing (especially with laser pointers), being held (in any way shape or form...like a baby is one of his personal favorites) and has developed one of the most laid back personalities! He's very loved, and we wanted to thank you for all your efforts! (Regarding him, and every other animal in your shelter!)

Bit O’Honey, Theodore and finally Theodork
Whatever name you know him by, he’s the same arrogant yet adorable orange and white kitty. Bit O’Honey first made his appearance at the shelter last January with a huge surface wound on his side. After months of treatment and TLC from the staff he was adopted and named Theodore. He proved to be too much for his adopter to handle and was returned. Because he is so bossy with other cats, he made his home in a lobby cage during the day and the intake room nights and weekends. After many more weeks of waiting, his forever family found him. Somehow it seemed poetic justice that he is now living with 3 labs and a senior Jack Russell Terrier. As you can see, he’s still arrogant yet adorable and now carries the name Theodork.

Dee Dee
From DeeDee’s adopter: Just wanted to let you know that Dee Dee is doing great, and that we love her to pieces! She is such a happy and gentle cat, and boy, does she love to play! I watched her do cartwheels through the kitchen this morning; neve knew cats could do that. :) She sleeps in our bed at night snuggled up between my husband and I, and when we get up she follows us around like a dog. She has no trouble jumping up and down onto things that are 4 feet off the ground, which will definitey strengthen up her hind legs. She's getting lots of exercise running up and down the stairs, and playing with her catnip mice. Today she helped me do laundry and put the sheets on the bed. She also has discovered the screened in porch, and sits out there with the other two cats and chatters at the chipmunks running up and down the maple tree in the front yard. I am surprised at how well the cats are adapting to each other, and so far there has been very little drama. Thank you all for everything that you do!

Jubilee and Olivia
From Jubilee and Olivia’s adopter:
The Kitties are doing great! Baby Kitty (Olivia) is a trouble maker but is able to get away with it due to her cuteness. Zewdie (Jubilee) is soooo friendly. She and my 90 lb lab loved each other even before she got out of the carrier. Zewdie is doing great. Her eye runs occasionally, but she stopped all sneezing and she eats great. Both are very happy and healthy. Thank you again.

Tango
Here are some pictures of our precious Tango. If you hadn't told us he was 12 years old, we would never have believed it!! He is crazy, fun and affectionate, which is quite unbelievable given the circumstances he grew up in. He is friendly with all of our other cats and dogs, and LOVES to eat...even though he doesn't have most of his teeth! As you can see in the picture, when he smiles, he shows his fangs! He is really a kitten in a 14# body and "talks" constantly in his deep baritone voice. Thank you all again for your efforts on his behalf. He is loved more than you will know and is happy in his forever home!

Cha Cha and Boogie Woogie
Boogie Woogie and Cha Cha went home together to live in Connecticut...on the heels of Hurricane Irene. They arrived safe and sound with a few detours due to storm damage on the way. They are living with a young Springer Spaniel named Maxie. Boogie Woogie thinks the dog insignificant while Cha Cha is more skeptical.
Here’s an initial report from their adopter:
There is not much to report on Cha Cha. She stays hidden in the cellar during the day and comes upstairs at night. I saw her 3 times last night, but each time the dog was up too and she ran back down. I set up an extra feeding station down there and someone has been eating--- After dark, Boogie Woogie walks around calling her-which is charming. He is a character--very talkative and really, really snuggly. He has kissed the dog several times (Maxie is still scared!). He also is very excited by the birds in the yard. We have a large sunroom, where he keeps track. He is interested in going outdoors, but I will hold off until he is microchipped and has had a Lyme shot. Please don't worry about ChaCha. I'm sure she will come around with more time.
Latest report on Cha Cha and Boogie Woogie:
As predicted, ChaCha is getting braver by the day (and night!). She comes upstairs several times a day and literally turns inside out for petting. I'm surprised how little she actually is--although she really has a chubby tummy. At night, we shut the dog in our bedroom and she and her brother culprit have the run of the house. We are frequently awakened by the sounds of running feet and the crashes of items that apparently don't belong on the shelves and tables where we left them.
An interesting aside----we have a tenant living in our basement apartment. She is intellectually and emotionally challenged, but high functioning enough to work as a bagger in the local grocery store. She has been very interested in the dog, but he is rambunctious enough to keep her a little cautious. Not so the cats! She "accidentally" leaves her door open so they come in her room, where they play in her bed and climb on all her furniture. She is absolutely thrilled! How important the love of an animal is for the well being of these special people.
We are delighted with these wonderful kitties and thank you all for letting them be a part of our lives.
What a heartwarming Happy Ending for all of us! Who would have thought two neglected and homeless kitties from Water Street, Cortland, would turn out to be Angels in disguise destined for Connecticut!! Or was is their adopters that were the real Angels?

Calahan
I adopted Calahan a few months ago, and I wanted to send you a little update. I couldn't ask for a nicer cat, from the moment he jumped out of his cage and into my arms I knew he would be a special little guy. He's been an absolute joy to have in my home, he's super friendly and wants to love on everyone. He even loves playing with my 3 year old niece and nephew, letting them try to pick up all 15lbs of him, or bouncing along behind them as they drag a toy on a string behind them. I also have to admit that I didn't quite know exactly what you meant when you told me that he was a bit vocal when I took him home, but he loves to talk. When I come home from work every night he greets me at the door and "tells" me all about his day. I can't thank you enough for letting me bring this amazing little cat in to my life, he's been more than I ever could have hoped for. I've attached a few pictures for you to see how well he's doing.

Tilly's Tail
My story starts on Water Street, June 2, 2011 in the home I shared with 29 other cats and kittens. A home that could no longer give us the care we needed.
At Water Street:
"I'm hungry and thirsty...maybe today will be the day we get some water and they will throw some fresh food on the feces covered floors?"
"It sure is hot in here...I wish I could see out of these dirty windows! I wish there was one clean place to sleep. I wish there was a litterbox."
"The itching in my ears is driving me crazy...my mouth is screaming in pain!"
"I don't think that kitten over there is going to make it. He's sicker than some of the others...and they don't look so good."
“What’s going on…who's that?!! I don't know those people?!! What are they doing?!! Hide, everyone hide!! Don't let them catch you!! Oh, no!! They've got me!! Help!! Help!! They’re putting me in a small box…I know what to do...don't move!! Don't eat or drink...or move."
At the SPCA:
"I'm so scared!!! I'll be very still...and not move...maybe they won't hurt me. ."
"I've never been in a cage before...is this what jail is like?"
"The voices here are kind and their hands are gentle. Hey, it's clean in here...the food is clean...the water is clean...the bed is clean...there's even a clean litterbox!!!
"I'll wait until nighttime when everyone is gone before I move to eat or drink...it will be safer then."
"I just got moved to a new cage...and this one has one of my friends in it. I feel so much safer now...I think I might begin to trust these new people...I think I'll just wash myself up for dinner."
"My ears don't itch anymore...and after that scary trip to the vet’s hospital for my dentistry, my mouth feels great too! Yeah!!”
"Oh, no! They're moving me to a new room...this is very scary!! I know what to do...don't move!! I'll wait until nighttime when everyone is gone before I move to eat or drink...it will be safer then. “
“The SPCA is a great place to be at night when I get to be out of my cage with so many of my old friends, but it still scares me to have so many visitors during the daytime. I really need my own home where I will feel safe and loved all of the time.”
In my new home:
“It was very scary here at first, but most of the other cats are friendly and my two people are very gentle and loving. I really like their 10-year-old grandson too. My favorite place to sleep is under the couch, but I quickly learned to come out when my wet food breakfast was served and when my people sit down so that I can cuddle on their laps. I remember at the SPCA they called me Cotillion but my people call me “Silly Tilly” and I like that just fine.
“There is one bossy cat that lives with us…her name is Destiny. She’s a long-haired Manx and she’s built like a feline football player. Even though she is completely blind, she follows me around trying to start a fight. I’ve learned she’s too big to get under the couch and doesn’t jump up on the counters, so I just stay out of her way. It’s ok, though, ‘cause she needs a loving home too.”
“I miss my old friends back at the shelter…I hope they all find good loving homes too…and soon.”

Zeus (PepperJack)
From PepperJack’s adopters:
We met and fell in love with Zeus (previously known as PepperJack) at our local Country Max store where the SPCA was featuring him for adoption. Zeus is a three-month-old black tabby kitten with a personality that melts our hearts and makes us laugh. He is a little force of nature with unstoppable energy. We now understand what bouncing off the walls actually looks like! He is also very generous with affection when he shifts into low gear. He has big, beautiful, copper eyes and a silky sable-colored coat with black shadow stripes. His toes look like tiny kalamata olives. He has a thin white line around his mouth that creates the visual impression that he is puckering up to kiss or say “oooooh." He is all legs, ears and tail right now. We will often wake up to him using us as terrain as he chases and pounces on his nine-inch tail. (Yes, we measured it while he was sleeping). He has taught us that virtually anything can be used as a toy, that a kitten will eat fresh raw peas if you turn your back for one moment, and that sleeping deeply is an art to be savored.

Duncan & Jade
Duncan is the long haired black kitty in the photos. He came to the shelter last year with a broken pelvis. After several weeks of cage rest and TLC he was adopted. Looks like he’s found a safer mode of transportation and a worthy companion!
Jade is the beautiful long haired calico that this same loving family recently adopted. She’s already made herself at home...although, Tucker, the dog might take a little more getting used to.

Bear (Mixer)
From Bear’s adopter: Every once in a while I like to send an update on "Bear." Six years ago I stopped at the shelter not expecting to adopt but saw a five year old, sad, shepherd mix laying on his cot. He would not even come to the door for a bone or for a scratch. I learned his name there was "Mixer" due to his one blue and one brown eye and he had been at the shelter for a very long time. He is now 11 years old, living with his sister (Lab) Chloe and 4 cats that love him to death. Attached are pictures, and I wanted to let you know that after 6 years I still appreciate all that you do.

Joey
I just wanted to let you all know that Joey has fit right into our world! He is such a lover, and a very good boy!!
He is such a sweet little guy we just can't imagine life without him.

Noodles
I adopted a cat named Noodles in the spring of 2007, and thought I should let you guys know how he has been doing. When we went to the shelter to adopt a kitten, we saw Noodles (he was a year or two old at the time) and immediately knew that we had to bring him home. At the time he had a shedding problem, but he no longer has that and is happy as he could be in our home. He still plays as if he were a kitten, runs around for no reason, and still begs for more attention, especially when I'm reading a book or doing things on the computer (Like he is right now). Thank you for letting us adopt him, because without him, it would feel as if our family was incomplete.

Kneady
We adopted Kneady (new name Bromlie) back in mid November. Just wanted to let you know that she is doing great and is the sweetest little trouble maker we could have hoped for! She also happens to be growing into the most gorgeous cat. She chases our 90 pound German Shepherd around the house, and as you can see, they just love each other. We are so happy that we found her!
|
 Chicklet
I just wanted to let you all know how well Chicklet is doing. She has adopted us! She has done so well settling in that she basically runs the house!
Chicklet is so loving with us and has made friends with our younger Italian Greyhound, they play together most of the day. She is a love and purrs all the time. She has a wonderful personality too. She has been a wonderful addition to our family. Thanks Cortland SPCA!

 Helen (Lucy)
We adopted Helen last Saturday (the little girl in the chair). We have named her Lucy, and she is pictured with Max. The two of them get along well and are even starting to play together, which is something that we didn't expect would happen. Max has always been so dignified. Lucy is eating well and we are getting the potty signals down. She is such a sweetheart!! We are all having a wonderful time!

Molly
Molly came into the shelter growling and snarling having been surrendered because her owner had too many animals and couldn’t take adequate care of them. The one person she trusted was Investigator Don Sooter because he had visited the home on more than one occasion. With his help we were able to transfer that trust to the rest of the staff and she started spending her days in the office with Diamond and the office staff...and of course, frequent visits with Don. Eventually, everyone was deeply in love with Molly and she with us. Her adopters came to visit her several times giving her plenty of time to get to know them and eventually we were able to get her to go for a walk with them and finally sent her with them with a “foster-to-adopt” agreement. That first night, Don went to their home to help with the transition. Of course, there were issues to work through, but with loving patience, her adopters met the challenge and her adoption was finalized this week. Molly owes her new found happiness to a determined and loving staff, adopters and most of all our Humane Investigator Don Sooter.

Monique (aka Delilah)

Monique - "Our Sweet Monique" has been in a foster-to-adopt placement and was finally spayed and adopted Thursday! Her name is now Delilah, and her adopters love her and their other cat is teaching Monique what she didn’t get to learn from her mom and littermates.
