Missy
When I heard about the Boxers taken from Scott to the Cortland SPCA I just had to go see them. I truly love the Boxer breed, I've had them for 20 years! I fell for a very sweet 6 year old girl named Missy. Her dark eyes melted my heart and her short tail wagged like Boxers do when greeting people, but I could sense that Missy had lived quite a dismal life. She had teats that were excessively large and stretched out from having so many litters. She was extremely thin and had a quiet almost sad disposition. ( A happy Boxer's entire body wiggles when they're happy, but Missy just quietly wagged her tail.) I was also told she had never played with toys.
Well, it's now been about a month since I adopted Missy and she has settled nicely into our family life. She is slowly gaining weight. She loves sleeping on any bed or sofa. She has become great friends with Otis, her Boxer buddy and occasionally she is found sleeping next to Miley the cat! She has just started to play with toys, her favorite one is actually a cat toy mouse that she loves to carry everywhere! It's been a joy to finally watch her toss them in the air and get excited about playing tug-o-war. Her favorite thing though is running in the wide open fields with Otis and it's so freeing to watch her spirit soar! But the best part about Missy now are her eyes, although still dark, sparkle and her whole body wiggles, not just her tail...she is home and truly happy!
Many thanks to all of you at the SPCA for all you do!

Toby
From Toby's adopter: Hi everybody! One year ago today, I walked into your facility asking if you had any small dogs. You showed me a little white fluffball whom you were calling Toby, and he wagged enthusiastically at me from inside his cage. He wasn't at all what I'd had in mind before I went up there, and on the way outside he peed on the wall in three places, and then he ran around like a crazy man outside. I didn't think I liked him. Then we went inside and I sat on the floor, and he rolled over and presented me with his belly to rub and my heart melted. I took him home that day as a foster, but by the time I was halfway back to Dryden, I'd decided to go to PetSmart and buy him everything he could possibly need--and then some. I renamed him Teddy and adopted him right away. One year later, after schedule adjustments, housebreaking, obedience training, traveling, sleeping, snuggling, uncountable trips to the dog park, sweet kisses, allergy testing, one petit mal seizure, and an exponentially growing reservoir of love, I can't imagine my life without him. Teddy is my baby, my best buddy, my almost constant companion. Thank you so much for all that you do, and for all that you did to help bring Teddy into my life. I am forever grateful.

Mona Lisa
From Mona's adopter: Mona Lisa is a joy! We adopted her at the end of January after meeting her at CountryMax. Our other cats took to her right away and she has put the 2 dogs in line. She is always about 5 feet from me, including on our 2 mile hikes in the woods each morning with the dogs. We love, love, love our little Mona "baby girl" Lisa!!

Betty
Dear SPCA:
Thank you so much for helping me find my new family. I am still shy indoors but outdoors I shine. My family likes the outdoors so we go to the park a lot and that makes me very happy. I've discovered how much I like the water we find when we walk the trails and I also get to investigate so many new things. The adventures we are taking together are very fun. I would like to thank you for sending my bed and blanket home with me, but I have not used them much 'cause my family's bed is nice and comfy...they let me sleep on it and share the pillows. The car ride was scary at first but now I am getting in the car all on my own. I think I'm going to be happy in my new home. Love, Betty

Silver
At the shelter, Silver was very sweet but very shy. Her adopter reports:
I just wanted to update you on Silver. I'm not kidding when I tell you that she warmed up to all of us by Friday afternoon, and I adopted her on Thursday! It only took her one day to get used to all of us, and to enjoy sitting in the living room with us all without hiding. She loves sitting on all of our laps and being around people. She also discovered a favorite place to sit in our living room, and I have the picture attached to this e-mail of her lounging in it. I'm surprised it only took her a day to get used to having four people around her all the time! We changed her name to Kesha...and she's still getting used to it :)

Matthew
From Matthew's adopter:
Hello. Last week I adopted "Matthew" from you. He was living at the PetSmart in Ithaca when I saw him. Well, we renamed him Mickey (he approves), and I just wanted to let you know that he's a marvelous cat. He lies on my desk next to my computer when I'm working, loves to have his tummy rubbed, and purrs every time I touch him. After two days of observing the household (and my 3 other cats and old dog), he's adapted to the environment, sleeping in all the favorite cat places in the house. He's a gorgeous, sweet-natured kitty and we're very happy to have him.

Coco Ma
From Coco Ma
Dear SPCA,
I want to let you know how much I love my new home. One of my absolute favorite things is to go on car rides with them. If I could go everywhere with them I would. I also love playing with one of my new cat friends, Vader. I have so much fun chasing him, and we even cuddled for a little while the other day. I get to sleep with my mommy every night if I want, and I love cuddling as close to her as I can get. I love going outside with my Uncle Andy and his girlfriend and to go running, but I always love going back inside and lying down on my bed, looking out the window, and chewing on my bone and all my toys. I'm a very picky eater, but they found a food for me that I love. I have gotten a few baths since I have been here and they always say how good I am during the baths. Thank you guys so much for letting them take me to their home. It is so much fun and I love it. I miss you guys, but I want you to know how happy I am here. Thank you so much!! Love, Coco Ma

Howie & Red
These pictures tell it all...well, almost all of the story. It looks like Red and Howie are giving a High Five now that they are finally together. Red was adopted from our shelter last year...a big dog, hard to place because of his size and overly protective temperament. He was finally adopted by a loving family who owned their own home with a fenced-in yard, kids for Red to love and protect, and great big loving hearts. That was enough Happy Ending for us, but not for this family. While visiting the shelter recently, they met Howie. A big dog, hard to place because of his size and his "I really don't like cats" attitude. The only question that had to be answered was whether Red and Howie would like each other. Red came to meet Howie and that went well...Howie went home with them for the weekend and you can see for yourself what happened next. Looks like they're tired out after all that dancing...must have been quite a party!!! From their adoptive family: "Thank you to everyone that has had a hand in making Howie & Red the great, happy dogs they are today. Yes, we gave them a home, Love and WE ARE THEIR FAMILY that LOVES THEM BOTH SO MUCH. But we know that if they didn't have people like all of you & all of the volunteers they would not be the great dogs they are... So Thank You All."
Don't you just love those happy endings? We do!!
